Let Indian Women Soar: A Call to Break Free from Patriarchal Chains

In Indian families, the sentiment often seems to be, “Beta, we’re not stopping you from flying—well, not until it inconveniences us.” It’s a subtle reminder that one can only spread their wings as much as they’re given slack; soar too high, and you might find yourself cut down—or worse, cut off. In India, many girls grow up with limited freedom to pursue their desires, wear what they want, or speak their minds. In simpler terms, they are denied freedom in the name of culture and traditions.

Their actions are scrutinized, their voices silenced, their rebellions quashed, their dreams shattered, and their freedom snatched—all because of a patriarchal society that fears the power of women. The truth is, there has never been a question of equality, because women have always been far superior to men in every aspect. History shows us that those with true power are often the ones most ruthlessly suppressed, long before they realize their worth.

The long-standing tradition of patriarchal oppression wasn’t born out of mere coincidence; it was a well-planned power move designed to do exactly what it does today—deny women their most basic rights and multiply their struggles a thousandfold. The oppression starts within their own homes, ensuring that they are brought to their knees before they even get the chance to stand and fight against societal injustices.

Women are often portrayed as burdens, a narrative that couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s disheartening to see that many women have yet to realize their true power, content to follow so-called cultural norms and traditions. In reality, none of these cultural practices ever belittled women; on the contrary, they held women in high regard. But like so many agendas—religion, race, caste, linguistic barriers, skin color, and economic divisions—this narrative has succeeded in dividing women, labeling them as “difficult” if they dare to open their eyes to this unjust world and question the atrocities.

Meanwhile, those who continue to believe in a meticulously constructed dream of a just world, where women are placed at the bottom of every hierarchy, remain blind to the truth.

Returning to the matter of Indian families, I urge them to let their women be who they were meant to be: rockets. Women are not kites to be held back or birds to be caged. They are meant to soar high, despite the countless challenges they’ve faced. Their voices will be heard from afar, and they are destined to navigate through storms, touch the clouds, and fly freely. It’s time to let them do exactly that.

Women have suffered enough. They already have countless battles to fight in the world to claim what is rightfully theirs; let’s not add another battle within their own homes. Homes should be places of understanding, care, protection, and appreciation—not places where they are questioned, hindered, caged, or belittled. It is high time for every woman to wake up from this matrix that has been blocking them from realizing their true worth and muster the courage to fight against anyone who chooses to stand on the other side of this struggle.

Let’s not keep our eyes closed and our hearts locked. The world needs its goddesses to rise and make their move now.
